Sri Lankan Tea Gathering

On 12 November 2025, the New Zealand Tea Institute successfully hosted a Sri Lankan Tea Gathering, inviting guests to experience the charm of Ceylon tea through guided tasting, cultural sharing, and in-depth discussion. In the gentle warmth of early summer, participants embarked on a sensory journey into the island known as the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean.”

Led by our professional tea instructors, the session explored Sri Lanka’s diverse tea regions, distinctive terroirs, and traditional processing methods. From the bright, brisk character of high-grown teas to the rich, full-bodied notes of low-grown varieties, every cup revealed the remarkable individuality shaped by the island’s climate and elevation. Guests had the opportunity to taste multiple grades and batches of Sri Lankan tea, deepening their understanding of aroma, structure, and mouthfeel.

A curated tea table display and interactive tasting segment added to the experience, allowing many attendees to compare teas using professional evaluation techniques for the first time. Guided aroma identification, flavour analysis, and tasting notes helped participants build a stronger foundation in tea knowledge. The atmosphere remained warm and engaging as conversations extended to Sri Lanka’s tea industry, cultural heritage, and international tea standards.

The New Zealand Tea Institute remains committed to presenting diverse, authentic, and academically grounded tea cultures from around the world. We extend our sincere gratitude to all participants who made this tropical tea journey both memorable and meaningful. We look forward to welcoming you again at our next gathering as we continue exploring the rich global tapestry of tea.
